IMPORTANT ISSUES
  • Huntsville Housing Authority
    • HHA
Who is going to reimburse homeowners for the lost value of their homes???? Frances is concerned that the Huntsville Housing Authority has become another government agency run amok. With no oversight and no accountability, they have become a cross of a ‘house flipping’ real estate agent and a redistributor of wealth. This agency should have stricter oversight; its objectives more clearly defined and additionally be required to provide transparency and accountability in all its actions. An unaccountable governing body should not be allowed to single-handedly affect the property values of a neighborhood nor mandate the living location of individuals.
  • PACT Funding
    • PACT
With children currently enrolled in two of Alabama’s premiere educational institutes and a third child who will be enrolling in the fall of 2011, Frances will join an elite group as the parent of three children in college. She is all too familiar with the cost of college – the hidden costs which are not detailed until enrolled. From $500 registration fees to required $300 meal plans, she completely understands the financial impact of college tuition, room and board and the devastation cause by the collapse of the PACT program. She will ensure all promises are kept and that future oversight is in place for future growth.
  • Upcoming Base Realignment and Closure
    • BRAC
As an individual directly affected by BRAC and the growth of business in the Huntsville area, Frances believes more should and could be done to prepare the infrastructure of our area for the increase in population. She sees on a daily basis the impact of the additional workforce on her way onto the Arsenal each day. Frances believes this area has been drastically underfunded by the state and that more of the money we send to Montgomery should be returned to address issues associated with growth. We must also get ready for the next BRAC which is only a few years away. She will make sure the Alabama Legislature works with the Chamber of Commerce and others to form a united front in order to procure more jobs and not wait until the last moment. The time to get ready for the next BRAC is now. The time to accommodate the current BRAC increase is past due and needs to be remedied.
  • Illegal Immigration
    • Illegal Immigration
The tax burdens for illegal immigrants has become substantial: Health care, cost of incarceration, cost to transport to federal authorites and of course jobs lost to American citizens. It is past time the State Legislature addressed issues surrounding illegal immigration.
